WSOC: Huskies Face Southeastern in Southland Clash this Thursday

HCU is one of just two schools without a loss in conference play

HOUSTON – HCU kept its impressive run of play going last Thursday with a 2-0 win over Stephen F. Austin and the Huskies now turn their attention to Southeastern as the Lady Lions visit Houston and Sorrels Field for a Thursday evening Southland Conference matchup at 5:00 p.m.

The Huskies (6-3-3, 2-0-1 SLC) are one of just two teams yet to lose a game in SLC play, along with Nicholls. HCU's seven points puts the Huskies in a tie for second place in the standings, two points behind a UIW squad that has already played four conference games and has one loss.

HCU, after earning a 2-0 win at home over SFA last Thursday, has gone 5-0-2 over its last seven matches and scored at least two goals in all but one of those. Freshman defender Mikaela Valentine earned SLC Defensive Player of the Week honors after assisting on both HCU goals in that win over SFA. Valentine didn't appear in the first two matches of the season before coming off the bench in the next two and then starting the last eight games for the Huskies.

Through the first three SLC games of the season, the Huskies have out-scored opponents, 7-2, while allowing a total of six shots on goal. Additionally, the HCU back line has limited its last five opponents to a total of nine shots on goal while putting 44 shots on the opposing goal.

Southeastern (5-6-1, 1-3-0 SLC) comes to Houston on a three-match losing streak with the Lady Lions losing five of their last six. SLU owns a conference win over McNeese but has lost the last three to East Texas A&M, UIW and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Sophomore Alexandra Knight leads SLU and is tied for second in the league with seven goals on the season. Kendall Curran has played the majority of the minutes in goal for the Lady Lions with a goals against average of 1.68 and a .678 save percentage.

HCU is 2-1-3 on its home turf this year while SLU has a 2-3-1 record when playing on the road. The Huskies hold a 12-5-2 all-time record against the Lady Lions, including a 5-2 mark over the last seven meetings, with a 4-2-1 record at home.

The Huskies will head across state lines for their next matchup, a Sunday, Oct. 11, 1:00 p.m. contest against the McNeese Cowgirls in Lake Charles, La.
