LAKE CHARLES, La. – HCU women's soccer heads across the border to face McNeese at Cowgirl Field on Sunday for an afternoon Southland Conference tilt as the Huskies begin the final six-game stretch of the season with four games on the road.
The Huskies (6-3-4, 2-0-2 SLC) have now gone eight matches without losing for the second-longest unbeaten streak in program history. HCU is one of two unbeaten teams in conference play, most recently drawing with Southeastern, 1-1, on Thursday evening in Houston.
Freshman Rylan Breath scored her first career goal on Thursday, finding the net in the sixth minute with an assist from Olivia Rossman. That assist was number 11 for Rossman's career, moving her into a tie for 10th on the program's all-time assists list.
The Cowgirls (8-5-1, 3-1-1 SLC) are presently two points ahead of the Huskies in the SLC standings, but they have played one more game than HCU. McNeese is 3-0-1 over its last four games. Sumayah Brown and Rhiannon Maynes-Tourond are tied for the team-lead with four goals each. Shannon Dempsey has been the Cowgirls' primary goalie of late with a 6-2-1 record in goal while allowing just five goals across 11 games.
HCU will head right back to Louisiana next week for a visit to Natchitoches, La. to face the Northwestern State Lady Demons on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7:00 p.m.
