BEAUMONT, Texas – The women's basketball team dropped a Southland Conference game on Thursday night, falling 66–54 to Lamar at Neches Arena.
The Huskies (4–9, 2–4 SLC) opened the game with an efficient first quarter, shooting 50 percent from the field to stay within three after the first ten minutes. Lamar created separation in the second quarter, outscoring HCU 13–5 to take a 31–20 lead into halftime.
HCU responded with its strongest stretch of the night coming out of the break, scoring 19 third-quarter points while shooting 45.5 percent in the period to pull back within single digits. Lamar answered with timely perimeter shooting, converting four fourth-quarter threes to maintain its advantage down the stretch.
Kamryn McLaurin led the Huskies with 14 points, adding three steals.
Grace Booth provided 10 points, while
Jordan Jackson finished with six points and seven rebounds. HCU added 30 points from players off the sideline, including four from
Jo Oly and
Hannah Fields.
Lamar (7–6, 4–2 SLC) shot 51.0 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from three, paced by Kamryn Wilson's 17 points and R'Mani Taylor's 12 points. The Cardinals held a 31–23 rebounding edge and scored 23 points off turnovers.
Huskies continue the road swing on Saturday, traveling to Nacogdoches to face Stephen F. Austin in Southland action.
