CORPUS CHRISTI, Tx. - The women's basketball team earned a 63–50 road win over Texas A&M–Corpus Christi on Saturday afternoon at the Hilliard Center, pulling away with a strong second half to secure its fourth Southland Conference victory of the season
The Islanders held a slim advantage after the opening quarter, but HCU settled in defensively and closed the half within two, trailing 24–22 at the break. The Huskies then took control in the third quarter, outscoring A&M–Corpus Christi 21–8 behind efficient shooting and forced turnovers to create separation.
HCU continued to build the lead in the fourth quarter, maintaining a double-digit margin throughout the final stretch. The Huskies shot 47.2 percent from the field and knocked down seven three-pointers, while holding the Islanders to 35.4 percent shooting overall and just 20 percent from beyond the arc.
Kamryn McLaurin led HCU with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, scoring in double figures for the game.
Hannah Fields followed with 12 points, adding four rebounds, while
Grace Booth chipped in 10 points and six boards.
Tove Caesar finished with nine points, knocking down a pair of threes, and
Jordan Jackson added six points off the bench. The Huskies also got key contributions from
Madison Hurta,
Dasia Hyams, and
Jo Oly as the bench accounted for 25 points in the win.
With the win, HCU improved to 4–9 in Southland play and snapped A&M–Corpus Christi's momentum at home. The Huskies will now turn their attention to a tough road test, traveling to Lake Charles to face league-leading McNeese on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 6:30 p.m. McNeese enters the matchup atop the conference standings with an 11–1 Southland record and a 10-game winning streak.
