WBB: Huskies Open 2026 with Southland Road Test at UIW

HCU heads to San Antonio following New Year’s Eve conference game

SAN ANTONIO, Tx. – The HCU women's basketball team opens the 2026 calendar year on Saturday afternoon, traveling to San Antonio to face UIW in Southland Conference action at 1 p.m. at the McDermott Center.

The Huskies (4–7, 2–2 SLC) enter the weekend sitting in the middle of the Southland standings, with five teams currently tied atop the league at 3–1. HCU opened conference play with wins over New Orleans and Southeastern before suffering road and home setbacks against Nicholls and McNeese, respectively.

Houston Christian is averaging 65.1 points per game this season while shooting 42.9 percent from the field. Kamryn McLaurin leads the Huskies at 13.2 points per game, while Grace Booth adds 12.8 points per contest and averages a team-best 8.6 rebounds per game. Jordan Jackson contributes 9.3 points per game and has connected on 43.3 percent from three-point range. As a team, HCU averages 35.1 rebounds and 13.1 assists per game.

UIW (5–6, 3–1 SLC) enters Saturday's contest tied for first place in the Southland Conference standings. The Cardinals closed out 2025 with a 66–59 home win over Southeastern on New Year's Eve and have won three of their first four league games. UIW is averaging 62.3 points per game while holding conference opponents to 63.3 points per contest.

Destiny Whitaker leads UIW with 14.0 points per game, while Jorja Elliott adds 11.3 points per contest and has knocked down 23 three-pointers this season. Raimi McCrary averages 10.3 points and a team-high 8.5 rebounds per game for the Cardinals.

Saturday marks the 24th all-time meeting between the two programs. UIW holds a 15–8 advantage in the series, including wins in the last five matchups.

Following Saturday's game, HCU will continue Southland road play with a trip to Lamar on Thursday, Jan. 8, in Beaumont at 1 p.m.
