BSB: Huskies Drop Series Finale Against Southeastern

HCU struggles to capitalize on opportunities in 10-2 loss

HOUSTON – HCU Baseball dropped the final game of its Southland Conference series against Southeastern Louisiana, falling 10-2 on Sunday afternoon at Husky Field.

Both teams got on the board early, exchanging runs in the first inning. Southeastern's TJ Salvaggio drew a walk, advanced to third on a stolen base and interference call, and scored on Mo Little's single to center. HCU answered quickly in the bottom half when Kenneth Dutka led off with a single and came around to score on Parker Edwards' sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1.

In the second inning, Southeastern regained the lead after Peyton Woods singled and Parker Coley drove him in with a double down the left field line. The Huskies responded once again, with Matthew Leiterman reaching base and later scoring on another single from Dutka to even the game at 2-2.

From there, Southeastern took control. Giovanni Licciardi delivered an RBI single up the middle in the fourth to put the Lions ahead 3-2, a lead they would not relinquish.

The seventh inning proved decisive, as SLU erupted for five runs. After Coley scored on a wild pitch, Licciardi added an RBI single. Conner O'Neal followed with a run-scoring hit, and Dane Watts contributed a sacrifice fly. Jude Hall capped off the frame with a two-run homer to right field, extending Southeastern's lead to 8-2.

The Lions added two more insurance runs in the ninth when Licciardi singled through the left side, bringing home Ben Robichaux and Woods.

Despite tallying 11 hits on the afternoon, the Huskies left 15 runners stranded. Dutka led HCU at the plate, going 2-for-5 with an RBI, while Jack Walker added two hits, including a double.

Ben Smith (3-5) took the loss for the Huskies, allowing three runs over 3.2 innings. Truitt Webb (1-0) earned the win for Southeastern in relief, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings and allowing just one hit.

The Huskies will return to action at home on Wednesday, April 30, with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch against Tarleton State at Husky Field.
