SB: HCU drops regular season finale to East Texas A&M

Lions spoil "Senior Day"; Huskies next play in SLC Tournament next week

HOUSTON --- Houston Christian University fell in the series finale on Saturday afternoon, as East Texas A&M University spoiled "Senior Day" with a 15-1 win at Husky Field.

HCU never got anything going offensively, managing just four hits and its lone run coming on a solo homer by Haylie Savage in the third.

ETAMU put up four runs in both the second and fourth before a five-run fifth frame ended things early. Tatum Wright had the big blow in the second with a three-run double, and she would get the scoring started in the fifth with another run-scoring double.

Leah Hammack took the loss for HCU, falling to 6-12 on the season after going 3.1 innings and giving up nine hits and nine runs. Savage went 1-3 with her fifth homer in her final time playing on Beechnut Street, and is now just two hits shy of 200 for her career.

Wright went 3-4 with two runs and four RBI for the Lions (10-40, 6-21) who with the victory clinch the eighth and final spot in next week's Southland Conference Tournament bracket play. Julia Sanchez picked up her fourth victory of the season with five solid innings, walking one and fanning two.

HCU falls to 17-31 overall and 10-17 in the Southland to close out the regular season. The Huskies will head to the SLC Tournament as well next week, with their bracket location and opponent still to be determined.

The Huskies bid farewell to three seniors playing their final games at Husky Field: Keely Castillo, Mackenzie Morris and Haylie Savage.
