NEW ORLEANS, La. – HCU, the No. 5 seed in the 2025 Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Championship Tournament, started day one of the tournament at Privateer Beach with a win over fourth-seeded Stephen F. Austin before falling to No. 1 seed Boise State in the afternoon.
The Huskies (13-19) avenged an earlier loss to SFA (20-13) at the Southland Mid-Season Tournament with a 3-2 victory to put themselves in the winner's bracket.
Alexa Landmark and
Tatum Lockhardt got the scoring started with a three-set victory (19-21, 21-17, 15-13) on Court 4. The Lumberjacks evened things up with a win on Court 2 over
Paige Palmer and
Alisia Silverthorn in three sets (19-21, 21-18, 15-13).
HCU again took the lead thanks to a two-set win (21-15, 21-15) on Court 3 for
Audrey Pearce and
Lauren Vickery. After SFA took the point at the fives, No. 1 pair
Kristin Gilmour and
Rachel Heilbrun earned the deciding point following a win in two sets (26-24, 21-14) that included a tightly-contested first set.
The Huskies then met with Boise State (21-10) in the afternoon with the Broncos coming way with a 3-0 win. The first point came on Court 2 with Palmer and Silverthorn falling in two (21-16, 21-17). Landmark and Lockhardt took their matchup to three sets (17-21, 21-15, 16-10) on Court 4 before falling. The final point of the dual came at the ones with Gilmour and Heilbrun falling in two sets (21-12, 21-17).
HCU's first match on Thursday, Apr. 24, will be at 12:45 p.m. against the winner of an elimination match between No. 7 McNeese and No. 3 San Jose State.
