SB: Huskies fall to Cougars in final non-conference game of regular season

HCU hosts East Texas A&M for three this weekend; "Senior Day" on Saturday



HOUSTON --- Houston Christian University dropped its final road game of the season, a non-conference midweek matchup across town at the University of Houston as the Cougars prevailed 11-0 on Tuesday evening.
 
After two quick outs in the first, the Cougars struck, as a Brooke Wells double was followed by a two-run homer by Makenna Mitchell. The hosts would load the bases in the second inning, and this time it was Wells providing the power with a grand slam to center field that gave UH a 6-0 advantage.
 
In the third, Houston loaded the sacks once again, and a two-run single by Ariel Redmon up the middle made the score 8-0 and Mitchell later added an RBI groundout to cap the four-run third.
 
HCU managed just two hits in the contest from Heidi Maytum and Hanna York. Leah Hammack (5-11) took the defeat, the first of three hurlers used on the evening by the Huskies.
 
Wells finished 2-2 with four RBI and Mitchell drove in three runs for the Cougars (21-19), who cranked out 11 hits, including the two homers. Rylee Michalak (5-4) earned the victory with four innings of one-hit softball and five strikeouts.
 
The Huskies are now 15-29 overall and 8-16 in the Southland. HCU returns to action this weekend when they close out the regular season slate with a three-game conference series against East Texas A&M University at Husky Field. The two teams will play a doubleheader starting at 4 pm Friday before the "Senior Day" finale on Saturday at noon.
