BATON ROUGE, La. – Following two weekends off, the HCU beach volleyball team fell to 11
th-ranked LSU before defeating New Orleans on the first day of the LSU Battle on the Bayou on Friday at the LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium.
The first dual of the day for the Huskies (10-14) came against the host Tigers (20-10), falling 5-0. On Court 1,
Kristin Gilmour and
Rachel Heilbrun took their first set to extra points, ultimately falling in two, 22-20, 21-10.
Paige Palmer and
Alisia Silverthorn fell on Court 2, 21-19, 21-16, while the No. 3 pair of
Alexa Landmark and
Lauren Vickery finished 21-18, 21-15. HCU's No. 4 pair,
Tatum Lockhardt and
Audrey Pearce fell by a 21-15, 21-18 final with Court 5 duo,
Killian Armstrong and
Karla Sanchez George, ending by a 21-16, 21-16 tally.
In HCU's afternoon matchup with UNO (4-26) the Huskies earned a 4-1 win for the program's fourth-straight victory over the Privateers. Armstrong and Sanchez George picked up the team's first point, winning on Court 5 in two sets, 21-10, 21-12. Pearce and Tatum earned point two for the Huskies in three sets at Court 4, 11-21, 21-12, 15-12. Palmer and Silverthorn came out on top at the twos, winning 21-11, 21-14 while No. 1 pair Gilmour and Heilbrun took a 21-18, 21-17 victory.
The Huskies return to the court on Saturday, Apr. 12, in Baton Rouge with South Carolina up first at 10:30 a.m. followed by Southern Miss at 3:30 p.m.
