BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – HCU beach came out on the wrong end of a pair of duals UAB and UT Martin at the March for May, hosted by the Blazers, on Friday at Blazer Beach.
In their first dual of the day, the Huskies (5-5) were defeated, 5-0, by UAB. Courts 2 through 4 all finished in two sets while
Kristin Gilmour and
Rachel Heilbrun fell in three sets (22-24, 21-12, 15-11) at the ones while
Audrey Pearce and
Sophia Sabol went to three (21-16, 18-21, 15-13) at the fives.
Later in the afternoon, HCU dropped a 4-1 decision to UT Martin (3-3). The Huskies' point came on court 1 from Gilmour and Heilbrun in the form of a 21-8, 21-14 final.
Karla Sanchez George and
Lauren Vickery took their matchup to three sets (24-22, 17-21, 15-9) on court 4. Gilmour and Heilbrun are now 6-3 for the season with all three of their losses coming in three sets.
HCU embarks on a trip to San Luis Obispo, Calif. next weekend for the Cal Poly Mustang Roundup on Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 15-16, before sticking around to play a pair of Southland Conference duals on Monday, Mar. 17, against San Jose State and Boise State.
