BVB: HCU Heads to Birmingham for Two Duals at UAB

The Huskies will face the Blazers and UT Martin on Friday



BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – HCU beach keeps things rolling this Friday when the Huskies take part in the UAB March to May with a pair of matches at the UAB Beach Volleyball Courts against the host Blazers and UT Martin.
 
HCU (5-3) went 2-2 last weekend at the FSU Seminole Beach Bash, falling to No. 7 Florida State and No. 15 Georgia State while twice defeating a CSU Bakersfield team that was receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll. Kristin Gilmour and Rachel Heilbrun went 2-2 on the weekend with two wins over CSUB while falling to FSU and GSU in three sets, all on court 1. On court 5, Audrey Pearce and Sophia Sabol also posted a 2-2 record and dropped a heartbreaker to GSU in three sets with the final set going to 19-17.
 
UAB (4-3) split a pair of duals last Saturday at the South Carolina Wheeler Beach Bash, first defeating Austin Peay, 5-0, before falling to the host Gamecocks, 3-2. The Blazers' No. 1 pair of Jasmine Haas and Olivia Stant dropped their opening match of the season but have won six-straight with five of those coming in two sets. UAB's two and threes both have 5-2 records for the season.
 
UT Martin (2-2) began the year with four duals at the LSU Tiger Beach Challenge last weekend, earning 3-2 wins over South Florida and Southeastern before falling to the 10th-ranked Tigers and ULM. Kayla Bryant and Olivia O'Keefe lead the way with three wins on court 3 for the Skyhawks with their lone loss coming against ranked LSU.
 
The Huskies will face UAB at 11:30 a.m. before facing UTM at 4:30 p.m. HCU is 3-1 all-time against the Blazers, most recently earning a 3-2 home win at Third Coast Volleyball Club. This will be the first meeting with UT Martin.
 
Following Friday's matches, the Huskies will head west for the Cal Poly Mustang Roundup on Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 15-16, in San Luis Obispo. Calif.. They will stay in the Golden State for their first two Southland Conference matchups of the season, taking on Boise State and San Jose State at Cal Poly on Monday, Mar. 17.
