BSB: Huskies Fall to Texas A&M in Non-Conference Matchup

HCU scores early but can’t keep pace with Aggies

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The HCU baseball team took on Texas A&M in a non-conference matchup Tuesday night at Blue Bell Park, falling 7-2.

Texas A&M (12-12) took an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning on a two-RBI single by Schott. HCU (14-8) responded in the top of the second, tying the game at 2-2 after an RBI double from Jeremy Rader and an RBI single from Trevor Roper. However, the Aggies quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the inning, capitalizing on a wild pitch and a groundout to take a 4-2 lead.

The Aggies extended their advantage in the third, adding two more runs off a throwing error and a fielder's choice. A solo home run in the eighth sealed the game at 7-2. The Texas A&M bullpen kept the Huskies in check, allowing just two hits over the final four innings.

HCU's offense was limited to four hits in the game, with Rader recording the team's only extra-base hit. Rader and Roper each reached base twice. Kyler Mentzel suffered the loss for the Huskies, falling to 1-1 on the season.

The Huskies return home to Houston for a Southland Conference series against Stephen F. Austin, beginning Friday, March 28, at 6:30 p.m. Game two is set for Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by the series finale on Sunday at 2 p.m.
