THIBODAUX, La. – Day two of the Southland Conference Mid-Season Tournament saw the HCU beach team split a pair of matches at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex with the Huskies falling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the morning before earning a win over New Orleans to wrap up play in the evening.
The Huskies (8-12, 3-3 SLC) fell in a 5-0 decision to a Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (11-8, 6-0 SLC) team that was receiving votes in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll. Four of the five matchups finished in two sets but the Huskies' No. 3 pair of
Alexa Landmark and
Tatum Lockhardt took theirs to three sets, 17-21, 21-13, 15=13.
HCU rebounded with a 5-0 sweep of New Orleans (2-18, 1-5 SLC) in the final dual of the day.
Paige Palmer and
Alisia Silverthorn got the scoring started against the Privateers, winning in two sets, 22-20, 21-12, at the twos.
Karla Sanchez George and
Lauren Vickery won on court 4 with a 24-22, 21-18 final. The third, and deciding, point came on court 5 with
Taylor Gardner and
Audrey Pearce cruising to a 21-11, 21-14 victory.
Kristin Gilmour and
Rachel Heilbrun rolled to a 21-16, 21-13 win while Landmark and Lockhardt took their match on court 3 in three sets, 18-21, 21-11, 15-13.
HCU wraps up the SLC event on Sunday, Mar. 23, with duals against McNeese at 11:00 a.m. and Stephen F. Austin at 3:00 p.m.
