BVB: Huskies Begin SLC Mid-Season Tournament with a 2-0 Day

HCU begins the three-day event with wins over Nicholls and Southeastern



THIBODAUX, La. – HCU beach got off on the right foot at the Southland Conference Mid-Season Tournament on Friday at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex, beginning the three-day, six-dual event with wins over Nicholls and Southeastern.

In the first dual of the day, the Huskies took down Nicholls in short order, 5-0. Paige Palmer and Alisia Silverthorn made quick work of the Colonels on court 2, winning 21-6, 21-3. HCU's No. 4 pair of Karla Sanchez George and Lauren Vickery then earned a 21-9, 21-13 win to set the Huskies up with a 2-0 lead before the final three flights began. Alexa Landmark and Tatum Lockhardt earned the decisive third point at the threes, 21-15, 21-9, before Audrey Pearce and Taylor Gardner also won in two sets, 21-10, 21-9, on court 5. The final point went to No. 1 pair Kristin Gilmour and Rachel Heilbrun in two sets, 21-13, 21-12.

Dual number two saw HCU take down Southeastern, 4-1. The Huskies' twos and fours again staked the team to a 2-0 advantage with Palmer/Silverthorn winning in a 21-12, 21-9 final while No. 4 pair Sanchez George/Vickery won 21-18, 21-11. SLU then picked up its point at court 3 before Gilmour/Heilbrun won the deciding point at court 1, 21-12, 22-20. Gardner/Pearce locked up the final point of the match at court 5, 23-21, 21-15.

The Huskies will be back at it at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Mar. 22, morning against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before taking on New Orleans at 5:00 p.m.
