SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Southland Conference play began on Monday at the Cal Poly Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex for the HCU beach volleyball program as the Huskies dropped a 3-2 matchup to San Jose State before falling to Boise State, 4-1.
The first HCU (5-11, 0-2 SLC) dual of the day came against the Spartans (4-12, 1-1 SLC). The Huskies' points came on courts 3 and 4 with court 2 the fifth, and deciding, point.
Alexa Landmark and
Tatum Lockhardt picked up the first point for the Huskies at the threes, winning in two sets (21-16, 23-21). The second HCU points went to No. 4 pair
Karla Sanchez George and
Lauren Vickery in a three set (18-21, 21-10, 15-13) win.
Paige Palmer and
Alisia Silverthorn took their matchup to three sets at the twos, but fell by a 21-17, 14-21, 15-12 final.
Allie Patton and
Audrey Pearce also went to three sets on court 5, falling 21-18, 16-21, 15-8.
Matchup two came against a Broncos (6-9, 2-0 SLC) team receiving votes in the latest AVCA poll. HCU's No. 1 pair of
Kristin Gilmour and
Rachel Heilbrun earned a two-set victory, 21-12, 21-16. Palmer and Silverthorn took their match to three sets before ultimately falling, 19-21, 21-14, 15-10.
Conference play continues this Friday, Mar. 21, for the Huskies with six matches across three days at the SLC Mid-Season Tournament in Thibodaux, La.
