TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – On Sunday at the Florida State Seminole Beach Bash the HCU beach volleyball team split a pair of duals, falling to seventh-ranked FSU before taking down CSU Bakersfield for the second time in as many days.
The day began with the Huskies (5-3) suffering a 5-0 loss at the hands of the Seminoles (9-0). On court 3,
Lauren Vickery and
Karla Sanchez George fell in two sets but took set two to extra points, eventually falling 21-16, 23-21.
Kristin Gilmour and
Rachel Heilbrun took their match to three sets before falling, 21-13, 22-24, 15-9.
In their second matchup with CSUB (2-3) of the weekend, the Huskies again downed the Roadrunners, 3-2. HCU's first point of the dual came from Gilmour and Heilbrun at the ones, 21-19, 21-10. The duo is now 5-2 on the season with their only two losses coming in three sets against ranked opponents.
Audrey Pearce and
Sophia Sabol earned their second win of the season on court 5, winning 21-19, 21-19. With the dual tied at 2-2, Sanchez George and Vickery picked up the final point on court 4, with a back-and-forth 21-18, 14-21, 15-11 victory.
The Huskies make the trip to Birmingham, Ala. for a pair of duals at the UAB March to May on Friday, Mar. 7, to take on the Blazers and UT Martin.
