HOUSTON – The HCU women's basketball team makes its return to Sharp Gym after a four-game road stretch that included three games in Louisiana when the Huskies welcome league-leading Southeastern on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
On Monday, Jan. 27, HCU (5-16, 2-10 SLC) came out on the wrong end of a 65-41 decision to Southeastern (18-3, 12-0 SLC). The Huskies got an 11-point performance from freshman
Kendall Beck who knocked down 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Sophomore
Lyric Barr added nine and senior
Amy Cotton scored seven for HCU. The Lady Lions were led by a hot-shooting Alexius Horne who connected on 5-of-6 from long-range. SLU attempted 30 more shots than the Huskies, largely in part due to a 51-28 rebounding advantage.
The Huskies are aiming to break a four-game losing streak following their home win over UT Rio Grande Valley on Jan. 18. This past Saturday, HCU dropped a 55-68 decision at UIW with
Tiffany Tullis providing a 14-point, nine-rebound performance. Tullis finished that game shooting 6-of-8 from the field. HCU led at the half, 29-27, but fell in a hole after UIW put up 28 points in the third quarter on an impressive 11-of-14 shooting.
The Lady Lions are on a 12-game win streak as they have remained perfect in SLC play, most recently earning wins over Lamar and New Orleans. Last time out, in a 59-50 home victory over the Privateers, Horne led SLU with 19 points and six rebounds. Horne is second in the Southland in conference play with 16.1 points per game and is shooting 51.4 percent (19-of-37) from three.
HCU will host New Orleans on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 1:00 p.m. in Sharp Gym as part of a doubleheader with the men following at 3:30 p.m.
