NATCHITOCHES, La. – The 2024-25 HCU women's basketball season comes to its conclusion this Saturday afternoon at Prather Coliseum when the Huskies and Northwestern State Lady Demons tip-off at 1:00 p.m.
HCU (6-22, 3-16 SLC) took a tough loss on the road in Commerce, Texas on Thursday evening, falling to East Texas A&M by a 53-45 final. Northwestern State (13-14, 10-8 SLC), meanwhile, dropped a home matchup to UIW, 71-64.
The Huskies and Lady Demons faced each other in Sharp Gym just before the new year on Dec. 29 with NSU earning a 57-51 win. The Huskies trailed by 11 with just two minutes to play but cut that down to just four before ultimately falling by six.
Erin Maguire led the Huskies with 11 points in that game wile
Kierra Prim scored 10 and
Hannah Fields had nine.
Maguire is leading HCU in scoring for the season, averaging 9.7 points per game with
Tiffany Tullis right behind her averaging 9.0 ppg. Additionally, Tullis is pulling down 8.8 rebounds per game and appears poised to finish the season in the top-10 in program history for rebounding average over a single season.
Senior Mya Blake leads the Southland Conference in scoring, averaging 17.7 ppg while also averaging 5.5 rpg and 4.0 assists per game. Vernall Atamah, a freshman forward, is second on the NSU roster with 13.7 ppg and a team-leading 6.7 rpg. The Lady Demons are 7-5 on their home floor this season.
