TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – HCU beach volleyball split a pair of duals on Friday at the Florida State Seminole Beach Bash, defeating a CSU Bakersfield team that was receiving votes in the latest AVCA coaches poll and falling to 15
th-ranked Georgia State.
The Huskies (4-2) began the morning with a tightly-contested 3-2 victory over CSU Bakersfield (1-3). HCU's No. 1 pair of
Kristin Gilmour and
Rachel Heilbrun cruised to a 21-9, 21-16 victory while
Audrey Pearce and
Sophia Sabol picked up a point at the fives with a 21-18, 21-18 win. The Huskies fell at both court 3 and court 4 to even things up at 2-2. On court 2,
Tatum Lockhardt and
Alisia Silverthorn dropped the first set before taking the next two for a thrilling 14-21, 23-21, 15-10 win to secure the dual for the Huskies.
In the second match of the day for the Huskies, No. 15 Georgia State (3-3) took courts 2, 3 and 4 in two sets to earn the dual victory. The pair of Gilmour and Heilbrun won their first set before ultimately falling in three, 12-21, 21-16, 15-8. Pearce and Sabol also went to three sets, falling in a heartbreaker, 18-21, 21-12, 19-17.
HCU will take on No. 7 Florida State on Saturday, Mar. 1, morning at 9:15 a.m. CT before one more dual against one of the other three teams taking part in the tournament.
