COMMERCE, Texas – HCU women's basketball begins its final two-game Southland Conference road trip of the season this Thursday evening at The Field House at East Texas A&M for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off.
The Huskies (6-21, 3-15 SLC) faces a Lions (6-20, 3-14 SLC) team that they defeated all the way back on Dec. 14 in Houston, 62-56. Four players scored in double-figures in that HCU win, led by
Erin Maguire with 17 while
Jo Oly,
Kierra Prim and
Tiffany Tullis all scored 11. Tullis posted a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds. The Huskies led wire-to-wire in the win as ETAMU was led by senior guard Jordyn Newsome who scored 12 points.
HCU is looking to snap a four-game skid that includes a tough 66-59 home loss to SFA last Thursday and an overtime, 58-55, defeat at UT Rio Grande Valley on Feb. 15.
Maguire and Tullis continue to lead the Huskies with Maguire averaging 9.5 points per game and leading the team with 64 assists while Tullis is adding 9.0 ppg and leads the way with 8.7 rebounds per game. Cotton, meanwhile, has totaled 23 blocked shots in 24 games.
The Lions are led in scoring by Newsome who is averaging 14 ppg and has knocked down 50-of-148 (33.8 percent) from beyond the arc. Sophomore Cora Horvath is adding 10.8 ppg while junior Alva Hedrich leads the team on the boards with 7.2 rpg. ETAMU has also lost four-straight, most recently falling on the road to New Orleans and Southeastern.
The Huskies will wrap up the 2024-25 season on Saturday, Mar. 1, in Natchitoches, La. against the Northwestern State Lady Demons at 1:00 p.m.
