HOUSTON – Day two of the Third Coast College Classic saw the HCU beach volleyball team start the day with a 5-0 sweep of UCA before falling to 15
th-ranked Texas, 4-1.
HCU (3-1) continued its dominance over Central Arkansas (0-4) in the morning, earning a 5-0 sweep to move to 9-1 over the last 10 meetings between the two programs.
Alexa Landmark and
Paige Palmer picked up the first point on court 4, winning 21-10, 21-14.
Allie Patton and
Audrey Pearce were next, winning 21-19, 21-15 at the fives. The deciding third point went to
Karla Sanchez George and
Lauren Vickery on court 3, 21-12, 21-9, before
Tatum Lockhardt and
Alisia Silverthorn won 21-19, 21-16 at the twos. The fifth and final point belonged to
Kristin Gilmour and
Rachel Heilbrun on court 1, 24-22, 21-15.
The Huskies then faced No. 15 Texas (5-0) in the tournament finale with the Longhorns taking the win. Gilmour and Heilbrun remained perfect on the weekend playing at the ones, taking a hard-fought 17-21, 21-17, 15-10 three-set victory. Sanchez George and Vickery lost at the threes, 27-25, 21-16, dropping a tightly-contested first set.
The Huskies head to Tallahassee, Fla. next weekend for the Seminole Beach Bash on Friday, Feb. 28, and Saturday, Mar. 1. HCU will face CSU Bakersfield and No. 13 Georgia State on Friday before facing No. 6 Florida State on Saturday.
