HOUSTON – HCU women's basketball dropped a 62-30 decision to visiting Lamar in Southland Conference play on Saturday afternoon in Sharp Gym.
The Huskies (6-21, 3-15 SLC) and Cardinals (19-7, 14-3 SLC) traded buckets early on with the score tied at 4-4 less than four minutes into the game. Lamar scored the next 11 points, however, to take a 15-4 lead before
Tiffany Tullis broke the scoring drought with a layup to make it a 15-6 game at the end of the first quarter.
HCU managed just four points in the second quarter as the Cardinals pulled away to lead 27-10 at the half and pushed the lead throughout the second half.
Tullis led the Huskies with 11 points and just missed out on a double-double with nine rebounds.
Kierra Prim added six points. The Huskies shot just 22.4 percent (11-of-49) from the floor while the visitors connected at a 34.5 percent (20-of-58) clip.
Lamar held a slim 41-36 advantage on the boards but forced HCU into 20 turnovers while committing just eight. Akasha Davis led all players with 18 points and 16 rebounds.
HCU will finish up the season with a pair of road games, first in Commerce, Texas against East Texas A&M on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 6:30 p.m. before traveling to Natchitoches, La. to take on Northwestern State on Saturday, Mar. 1.
