HOUSTON – HCU closes out its home schedule for the 2024-25 season with Senior Day on Saturday afternoon when the Huskies take on the Lamar Cardinals in Sharp Gym at 1:00 p.m.
HCU (6-20, 3-14 SLC) dropped a tough 66-59 matchup to SFA on Thursday evening with the trio of
Amy Cotton,
Erin Maguire and
Tiffany Tullis each scoring 14 points. The Huskies out-shot the Ladyjacks, connecting on 46.2 percent, but were hurt by 19 turnovers and losing the rebounding battle.
Lamar (18-7, 13-3 SLC) has won its last three, including a 61-53 road win over UIW on Thursday. Akasha Davis finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. Jacei Denly added 13 points in the win as Lamar's defense limited UIW to just 29.4 percent shooting from the floor.
Maguire is having a strong three-game stretch for the Huskies, averaging 16.3 points per game and raising her season average from 9.0 ppg to 9.9 ppg. Tullis, meanwhile, is averaging 8.7 rebounds per game which would rank 10
th-best in a single season in program history.
Lamar is led by Sabria Dean who is scoring 14.5 ppg while Davis is second with 12.6 ppg and leads the team with 8.4 rpg. The Cardinals have been the top rebounding team in the Southland this year, owning a +5.8 rebounding margin.
HCU finishes out the season with a pair of road games next week, first at East Texas A&M on Thursday, Feb. 27, before taking on Northwestern State on Saturday, Mar. 1.
