WBB: HCU Heads to Tarleton State for Sunday Road Matchup

Huskies look to bounce back after season opener at No. 5 LSU

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - The HCU women's basketball team continues its opening stretch of road games this Sunday with a 2:00 p.m. non-conference matchup at Tarleton State inside the EECU Center.

The Huskies (0-1) look to pick up their first win under first-year head coach Drew Long after opening the season at No. 5 LSU on Tuesday. The Tigers defeated the Huskies, 108-55, with the Huskies finishing the night shooting 38 percent (19-of-50) from the floor. Sophomore guard Grace Booth scored a career-high 17 points off the bench and led the team with seven rebounds. Freshman Kamryn McLaurin added 10 for HCU in her collegiate debut and Jordan Jackson added nine.
 
The Texans (1-1) opened the year with a home win over Schreiner and most recently dropped an 87-77 overtime loss to Arkansas State on Friday. Shadasia Brackens led the scoring with 20 points, connecting on 7-of-9 from the floor. Kyriana Jones finished with 17 points and Gia Adams added 14. Tarleton State shot 40.7 percent (22-of-54) in the loss and was hurt by 29 turnovers.

This will be the second meeting between the programs. Tarleton State won the first-ever matchup last season, 48–42, in Houston. The two programs met for the first time last season in Houston with the Texans earning a 48-42 win. HCU senior forward Jo Oly finished that game with a double-double off 11 points and 11 rebounds. 

The Huskies finish off their three-game road trip with a visit to Tulsa, Okla. to take on the University of Tulsa at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13.
