Houston Christian University returns to the hardwood on Thursday night to complete the two-game homestand with a first-ever tilt against cross-town foe College of Biblical Studies. Tip-off with the Ambassadors is slated for 7 pm in Sharp Gymnasium.

HCU rallied from a 14-point first half deficit to win going away, defeating University of Louisiana-Monroe 72-61 in Sharp Gym last Thursday night. The Huskies dug an early hole and trailed by 10 at the break before outscoring the visitors by 21 in the second half to move their record to 2-1 in the early going of the 2025-26 campaign.

Two three-pointers from D'Aundre Samuels sandwiched a pair of buckets by Demarco Bethea to highlight at 14-2 run that tied things at 47 seven minutes into the second half. Later, two triples by Trent Johnson bookended a dunk by Demari Williams that gave HCU a 62-55 lead with five minutes to go and the Huskies never looked back.

Johnson went for career-bests of five triples and 17 points, while Kylin Green added a career-high 13 assists, the most in a game for HCU since Mike Moss had 13 against Chicago State in 2011. Bethea had 11 points and Mambourou Mara added 10 points, six rebounds and matched a career-best with four blocked shots.

Doty, the ninth head coach in program history, is now in his second season at the helm after guiding HCU to a 12-20 overall mark and 9-11 ledger in Southland Conference action in 2024-25. The Huskies doubled their success rate from the previous season, going from six total wins to 12 and from four victories to nine in conference play, finishing seventh in the league after being picked to finish last. HCU advanced to the Southland Tournament and saw Bryson Dawkins named All-Conference as just the second player in program history to pick up SLC First Team honors.

Through three games, the Huskies have two players in double-figure scoring in senior guard Kylin Green at 11.3 points per game and grad forward Trent Johnson at 10.7 ppg. Green also leads the club in assists at 7.7 per while Johnson is the leading three-point shooter at a .471 clip on 8-17 from long range.

Junior guard D'Aundre Samuels and senior forward Nehikhare Igiehon each average 8.7 points per game. Samuels is second on the club from the arc, hitting 6-14 for a 42.9% thus far.

Grad forward Trent Johnson and junior forward Mambourou Mara are turning in jack-of-all-trades efforts. In addition to being second in scoring, Johnson is averaging 4.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, one steal and 1.3 blocked shots. Mara chips in eight points, 5.7 boards, two assists, 1.7 steals and three blocks.

The Huskies take on College of Biblical Studies-Houston on Thursday night in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. CBS-Houston is coached by former University of Houston Phi Slamma Jamma legend Michael Young and are led by Memphis, Tennessee native Kendall Hamilton, a 6'7 sophomore forward who scores 13.0 points per. Trayvon Martinez, a 6'3 junior guard from Rosharon, averages 9.0 points and 3.3 rebounds while Alvin Kay, a 6'6 freshman forward from Houston, chips in 7.7 points and a team-best 5.3 caroms per.

Thursday's game is the 14th time the Huskies have played on November 20. Houston Christian is 5-8 all-time on this date with the last outing being in 2023, an 89-87 loss to UTSA in Sharp Gymnasium. The last win came in 2011, when HCU defeated Cal State Fullerton 88-83 in the Beryl Shipley Classic in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Following the Thursday night tilt with CBS-H, the Huskies will embark on a five-game road stretch. The trek begins with a trip to the East Coast for three games that sandwich Thanksgiving Day. HCU will play in The Citadel MTE in Charleston, South Carolina with games against Bellarmine on November 25 and the host Bulldogs on November 26. HCU then travels to Statesboro, Georgia to take on Georgia Southern University to close out November.

The road travels will bring the Huskies back to Texas to begin December, heading to the Metroplex for a game against North Texas. The five-game stretch culminates with the Southland Conference opener on December 6 at University of New Orleans.
