VB: Huskies Stay Perfect in Southland Play With 3–1 Win Over Islanders

Fadal records career-high 51 assists as HCU improves to 5–0 in conference play

HOUSTON — The volleyball team extended its undefeated Southland Conference record to 5–0 with a 3–1 victory over Texas A&M–Corpus Christi on Thursday night at Sharp Gym. The Huskies rallied after dropping the opening set and secured the win by scores of 21–25, 25–17, 25–20, and 26–24.

After a slow start in the first set, HCU responded with an efficient offensive performance the rest of the way, hitting .284 as a team and totaling 61 kills to the Islanders' 52. Senior setter Peyton Fadal directed the attack with a career-high 51 assists, helping three Huskies reach double figures in kills.

The momentum shifted early in the second set when Allana Archie and Joya Euhus combined for a series of kills that gave the Huskies a comfortable lead. Archie finished with 17 kills on .455 hitting, while Euhus added 14 kills and three blocks. Hannah Redrow contributed 12 kills and matched Archie and Euhus with three blocks each as HCU's front line controlled the net.

Taylor Bonner-Williams provided steady scoring with 12 kills and a .321 attack percentage, while the defense was anchored by Bianca Byerly with 16 digs, followed by Anna Melgren with 14 and Savanna Stevens with 11. Byerly also added two service aces, helping the Huskies keep pressure on the Islanders' serve receive.

After falling in the opening frame, HCU's offense surged in the second, hitting .394 to even the match. The Huskies maintained their rhythm through the third, using balanced scoring and timely defense to move ahead 2–1. In the decisive fourth set, both teams traded points down the stretch before a late HCU run, highlighted by key kills from Archie and Redrow, closed out the match 26–24.

The win moves Houston Christian to 10–8 overall and 5–0 in Southland play, while Texas A&M–Corpus Christi drops to 6–11 overall and 2–3 in conference.
