WSOC: HCU Visits Nicholls for Southland Road Battle

The Huskies earned a 2-0 home win over the Colonels last season



THIBODAUX, La. – This Thursday, the HCU women's soccer team returns to the road to take on the Nicholls Colonels in a Southland Conference matchup at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex at 6:00 p.m.
 
The Huskies (6-6-1, 1-2-1 SLC) suffered a 1-0 loss on an 89th-minute game-winner against UT Rio Grande Valley last Thursday night at home and are looking to rebound and pick up an important three points in the SLC standings. HCU currently stands tied for ninth in the SLC standings with four points but is just three points out of third place.
 
In conference play, HCU is tied for the best save percentage in the conference with just three goals allowed on 21 shots on goal. Freshman Jasmine Diaz has one of the team's two goals in SLC matches and is tied for the team lead with three shots on goal, along with Brynn Dunbar.
 
Nicholls (4-7-1, 1-3-0 SLC) has dropped its last two matchups after breaking a 70-game SLC winless streak on Sept. 25 with a 2-1 win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Senior Avery Mondoux leads the Colonels with five goals while sophomore Mylea Riggle has four. Sophomore Aislinn Wright has played the majority of minutes in goal with a 1.91 goals against average and a save percentage of .720.
 
The Huskies are 13-1 all-time against the Colonels and have won the last 13 meetings. HCU won a 2-0 decision in Houston last season.
 
The Huskies will be back at Sorrels Field on Sunday, Oct. 12, afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. matchup against the UIW Cardinals.
