OVC Honors 5 - Alex Aitken

MSOC: Aitken claims OVC Goalkeeper of the Week honors

Fifth time to be honored this season, eighth in career for senior netminder

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Houston Christian University's Alex Aitken earned Ohio Valley Conference honors for the span of October 19-26 as he was tabbed the Co-Goalkeeper of the Week.

It is the fifth honor of the season and eighth overall for Aitken in his career. The Great Barford, England native made five saves in Thursday night's 2-1 win over rival University of the Incarnate Word to help the Huskies snap a two-match losing skid.

The senior now has 292 saves in his career at HCU, the most in program history. He has seven shutouts on the season, and the blanking of WIU on October 12 gave him 19 for his career, surpassing former keeper and head coach Benny Agosto for the top spot in program history.

Aitken has started every game between the pipes for HCU and is now 9-5-1 on the season. It is the first time for the Huskies to post nine wins in a season since the 2015 team went 9-8-2. The nine wins also represents a new single-season personal best in victories with the win over UIW being the 25th of his career. Aitken currently leads the league in shutouts with seven, goals against average at 0.87 and save percentage at .829, while ranking fourth in total saves with 63 on the year.

A member of the WAC All-Freshman team in 2022 after posting a school single-season record 88 saves, Aitken picked up his first career All-Conference honor last year when he was named to the OVC second team.

The Huskies continue their three-match homestand when they face Liberty University on Thursday evening at Sorrels Field in the penultimate match of the regular season. HCU will then host Southern Indiana University in a "Senior Day" matinee on Sunday in the regular season finale.
