FRISCO, Texas – HCU freshman defender
Katya Alexis has been named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week following an unbeaten week of conference play for the women's soccer team.
A central defender, Alexis played all 180 minutes during the Huskies' two SLC matches this past weekend as HCU posted a 1-0-1 record to pick up an important four points in the league standings. In a Thursday matchup at Nicholls, the 6-2 freshman rose up and headed in a corner kick for her first career goal and pull the Huskies even and earn a tie. She then followed that up on Sunday, again scoring on a corner kick by poking in a ball in front of the goal as HCU went on to defeat UIW, 2-1.
Alexis and the Huskies are off this coming Thursday with a trip to Nacogdoches, Texas up next to face Stephen F. Austin on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 1:00 p.m.
