THIBODAUX, La. – The HCU women's basketball team fell short on Thursday evening in Southland Conference action, dropping a 76-51 decision inside Stopher Gym to the Nicholls Colonels in the team's third game in Louisiana in the span of six days.
The Huskies (5-15, 2-9 SLC) got the scoring started with a an early bucket from
Erin Maguire but the next two and a half minutes belonged to Nicholls (14-6, 7-4 SLC) as the Colonels jumped to a 13-2 lead. The two teams then traded scores and the Huskies went on a 9-2 run to get it back within five, 18-13, with 2:34 left in the first quarter. Nicholls closed the quarter with its own 9-2 run to lead 27-15 with 30 minutes left to play.
After a
Tiffany Tullis and-one conversion pulled HCU to a 31-20 deficit the Colonels scored the next 15 points and led by at least 20 the rest of the way.
Kierra Prim finished with a team-high 12 points off the bench, connecting on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor while also leading the way with six rebounds. Tullis added 10 points for the Huskies, shooting 4-of-6 from the field.
HCU shot 32.6 percent (15-of-46) as a team and connected at an 86.4 percent (19-of-22) clip at the foul line. The Colonels, meanwhile, knocked down 50 percent (28-of-56) from the floor and 46.4 percent (13-of-28) from behind the arc. The Colonels also held a 35-28 advantage on the boards.
HCU wraps up its current four-game road swing on Saturday, Feb. 1, in San Antonio, Texas against UIW at 1:00 p.m.
