Game Notes

HOUSTON – The HCU women's basketball team continues its current four-game home stretch this Saturday afternoon when the Huskies host UIW at 1:00 p.m. inside Sharp Gym.

The Huskies (4-10, 1-4 SLC) and Cardinals (7-7, 2-3 SLC) have played four common opponents in conference play so far with both teams earning home wins against East Texas A&M while UIW also earned a 48-46 home win over Northwestern State. HCU lost both meetings between the two teams last season, marking the first time UIW has ever beaten the Huskies in Sharp Gym.

On Thursday, HCU fell behind by 21 in the second quarter before storming back to within three against McNeese behind career-highs of 22 points and eight rebounds from Erin Maguire but ultimately fell by a 61-51 final. The Huskies forced the Cowgirls into 34 turnovers, the most forced by an HCU team since 2012 when the Huskies forced 35 turnovers by Jackson State. Kierra Prim and Tiffany Tullis each matched career-highs with four steals.

UIW has dropped its last three games, including Thursday evening's 68-57 loss at home to Nicholls. Junior Jorja Elliott led the Cardinals with 14 points in the loss while sophomore Destiny Whitaker added 10. Elliott leads the team with 10.4 points per game this year with Brynn Lusby and Raimi McCrary each scoring more than 8.0 ppg with 5.4 and 6.4 rebounds per game, respectively.

HCU will stay within the confines of Sharp Gym next week when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday, Jan. 16, and UT Rio Grande Valley on Saturday, Jan. 18.
