VB: Jacobs named SLC Offensive Player of the Week

Grad transfer shines bright with back-to-back double-doubles as Huskies start conference play 2-0

FRISCO, Texas – Houston Christian University's Emerald Jacobs has been named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week after her efforts during the week of September 22-29. Jacobs picks up her first career weekly honor at HCU by pacing the Huskies to back-to-back wins to open SLC play.

A graduate transfer from Florida A&M University, Jacobs posted two double-doubles on the week. She averaged 4.0 kills and 3.25 digs while hitting at a .431 clip over eight sets played in the two matches.

She posted 10 kills, 16 digs and matched a season-best with three blocks in the 3-1 victory over Nicholls in Thibodeaux on Thursday before a huge Saturday performance in front of the home crowd.

Jacobs established a new HCU high with 22 kills against TAMUCC, one short of her previous career-best of 23 set while at FAMU, while adding 10 digs for her second straight double-double. She hit at a .500 clip in the 3-1 victory over the Islanders.

She is second on the team in points per set at 3.5 and leads the team at 3.15 kills while chipping in 2.12 digs per. She now has three double-doubles on the season after the pair this past week.

HCU is now 5-8 on the season overall and 2-0 in the SLC. The Huskies continue their three-match homestand this week with tilts against the two teams picked first and second in the preseason conference poll. HCU hosts preseason top-pick Stephen F. Austin at 6:30 pm on Thursday night and then welcomes SLC newcomer UTRGV at 1 pm on Saturday afternoon.
