FRISCO, Texas – Senior
Dillon Fedor earned first team preseason all-Southland Conference honors with teammates
Dion Daniels and
Zae Smith picking up second team laurels in an announcement made by the league office on Monday morning.
Fedor, last season's first team all-conference kicker, returns following a junior season in which he connected on 76.9 percent (10-of-13) of his field goal attempts. He was a perfect 31-of-31 on PAT attempts and drilled a career-long 50-yard field goal in a 17-13 win over Texas A&M-Commerce.
Daniels started every game in 2023 on an offensive line that helped produce the top rushing attack in the conference. Through three seasons with the Huskies, he has played in 25 games with 16 starts under his belt.
Smith finished last season second on the team with 3.5 sacks in eight games while making seven starts. As a sophomore, he had 24 tackles with a career-high eight coming in a 30-0 win over Prairie View. Smith also had a pair of forced fumbles and a fumble recovery, including a strip sack with the recovery in a road win at McNeese to close the season.
HCU was picked seventh in the SLC preseason poll, voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
The Huskies open the 2024 campaign on Aug. 31 in Dallas, Texas at 7:00 p.m. against SMU.
