HOUSTON, Texas – Houston Christian University Head Coach
Trent Herman announced another addition to his recruiting class on Monday with Sa'Myah Medford joining the fold. The Huskies will welcome her as the ninth player in the incoming class when preseason camp begins on August 8 in preparation for the 2024 season.
Medford comes to HCU after spending her freshman campaign at Louisiana Tech University. She saw action in 18 matches for the Bulldogs, averaging 1.1 kills per game. She finished the season with 22 blocks and finished strong down the stretch, averaging 1.5 kills over her final five matches of the season. That stretch included posting career-bests with eight kills and four blocks at Liberty on November 3.
The 5'11 middle blocker from Mansfield, Texas was a three-year letter-winner at Lake Ridge High School, averaging 3.1 kills per game as a senior and earning All-District honors. She plans on majoring in Kinesiology.
COACH HERMAN ON MEDFORD:
"We are really excited about adding Sa'Myah to our incoming class. Having a year under her belt on the collegiate level and bringing that knowledge and experience to the table was a big factor in wanting her as a part of our program."
Medford, the lone transfer and ninth total addition for Herman and his staff thus far, joins an incoming freshman class of Katy Barger, Bianca Byerly, Ravyn Dash, Peyton Fadal, Avery Psencik, Chloe Richards, Jade Smith and Savanna Stevens. The eight rookies represent the largest freshman class in Herman's tenure at HCU.
HCU bid adieu to a quintet of seniors after the 2023 season:
Ellie Wipf,
Anna Gadway,
Kaley Feris,
Mollee Henicke and
Jaleesa Caroccio. The Huskies went 19-13 overall and 13-5 in the Southland and advanced to the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament.
