MBB: Trio of Huskies earn SLC All-Academic honors

Achara, Bazil, Moore give HCU three selections for first time



FRISCO, Texas --- Houston Christian University had three players selected to the Southland Conference All-Academic teams for the 2023-24 season. Chigozie Achara, Pierce Bazil and Tristan Moore were each selected to the second team, marking the first time in school history that HCU has had three players awarded.
 
Achara graduated in the Fall, carrying a 3.35 GPA in Interdisciplinary Studies before beginning his Master's work in the Spring in Kinesiology-Sport Management. The 6'8 forward from Palmdale, California played in 22 games for the Huskies with three starts, averaging 2.6 points and 2.0 rebounds.
 
Sophomore guard Pierce Bazil played in 29 games with 10 starts, averaging right at 23 minutes per contest. The Lincoln, Nebraska native recorded 6.1 points, 1.9 assists and 1.4 assists per game on the season while carrying a 3.73 GPA in Biblical Studies.
 
Tristan Moore rounds out the trio as the junior from Albuquerque, New Mexico checks in with a 3.40 GPA majoring in Marketing. The 6'7 wing made nine starts in his 25 appearances on the season, averaging 3.7 points and chipping in two rebounds per.
 
A first time for three selections from HCU, it marks the third time the Huskies have placed at least two players on the All-Academic teams as a member of the Southland Conference. Reveal Chukwujekwu and Colter Lasher were named in 2016-17, while Ian Dubose and Oliver Lynch-Daniels earned honors in 2018-19.
 
Southeastern Louisiana's Nick Caldwell was named the SLC's Student-Athlete of the Year. He averaged 15 points and five rebounds per game for the Lions while earning a 3.67 GPA in Strategic Communications.
