FORT WORTH, Texas – On day two of the TCU Invitational held at the TCU Beach Volleyball Courts, the HCU beach team fell to 11
th-ranked Hawaii and Texas in a pair of morning matches.
The morning started with an 8:30 a.m. matchup against the No. 11 Rainbow Wahine (16-10) but the Huskies (8-21) fell, 4-1. HCU's point came from No. 3 pair
Paige Palmer and
Audrey Pearce, earning a three-set win (21-19, 17-21, 15-12). At the twos,
Kristin Gilmour and
Rachel Heilbrun took their match to three sets (17-21, 21-15, 16-14). Saturday was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Later in the morning, the Huskies fell short, 3-2, in a rematch with the Longhorns (6-7).
Mary Alper and
Tatum Lockhardt gave HCU an early lead, picking up the first point of the dual at the fours with a two-set victory (21-19, 21-12). The next point of the match also went to the Huskies with the No. 5 pair of
Kylann Griffith and
Lauren Vickery also winning in two sets (21-12, 21-19). Texas took the next two points at the ones and twos, leaving the threes to decide the match. The Longhorn's duo of Ayden Ames and Hannah Ogden eked out a three-set win (20-22, 21-15, 15-13) over the Huskies'
Paige Palmer and
Audrey Pearce.
The Huskies have one last date of matches ahead before hosting the Southland Conference Championship tournament, facing Stephen F. Austin and Tarleton at Third Coast Volleyball Club on Wednesday, Apr. 10 for Senior Day.
