HOUSTON – HCU's season came to an end on Sunday in the semifinals of the Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Championship at Third Coast Volleyball Club, falling to top-seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 3-1.
The Huskies (13-23) won the first point of the match against the Islanders (27-9) with No. 2 pair
Kristin Gilmour and
Rachel Heilbrun remaining perfect at the tournament thanks to a 23-21, 21-18 victory. The freshman duo went 5-0 for the Huskies at the tournament and closed the season with seven consecutive wins. The fours were next with
Mary Alper and
Tatum Lockhardt dropping a tight one, 18-21, 21-18, 15-13.
With the ones, threes and fives following, the first decision came with No. 5 pair
Kylann Griffith and
Lauren Vickery coming up short in two sets, 21-18, 23-21. The decisive point came against HCU's No. 3 pairing,
Paige Palmer and Audrey Pierce, with the Islanders taking a 21-19, 21-16. When the threes ended, HCU's No. 1 pair of
Abbey Bufkin and
Kristen Kleymeyer were at the beginning of a third set after splitting the first two.
