NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The HCU beach team made it five wins in its last seven matches on Tuesday afternoon at the SFA Beach Volleyball Courts, defeating SFA, 3-2.
The Huskies (7-18) fell behind with No. 4 pair
Mary Alper and
Tatum Lockhardt dropping a 21-16, 21-18 match.
Kylann Griffith and
Lauren Vickery evened things up, earning a point at the fives with a 23-21, 21-15 win.
Kristin Gilmour and
Rachel Heilbrun then put HCU ahead of the LadyJacks (8-17) with a two-set win (21-14, 21-19) as the Huskies' No. 2 pairing.
SFA then pulled even at two points a side with No. 3 pair
Paige Palmer and
Audrey Pearce dropping a two-set decision (21-18, 21-17). The win came down to the No. 1 pairs with
Abbey Bufkin and
Kristen Kleymeyer pulling out a tightly-contested three-set victory (19-21, 21-14, 19-17).
HCU dropped a 3-2 matchup to SFA on March 16.
The Huskies head north to Fort Worth, Texas for the TCU Invitational this coming weekend, first taking on Texas and fifth-ranked TCU on Friday, Apr. 5, before facing No. 11 Hawaii and Texas on Saturday, Apr. 6.
