SB: Huskies shutout by league-leading McNeese

Saturday twin-bill moved up to noon because of impending weather

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana --- Houston Christian University dropped the first game of a three-game series to league-leading McNeese on Friday evening, losing 8-0 at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond. The two teams will conclude their weekend matchup with a Saturday doubleheader that has been moved up to NOON because of impending weather.

The Cowgirls put up a three-spot in the first inning and never looked back. Samantha Mundine reached on an error that brought in Rylie Bouvier. Mundine and Alexis Dibbly would then come home on a Bella Perez single to center.

Perez would bring in another run in the third with another RBI single and then scored on a triple from Reese Reyna. Not quite done, Perez would double to left center in the fifth to bring in two more before a Reyna RBI single eneded things.

The Huskies got just five hits on the night, as McNeese's Shaelyn Sanders went five with one walk and five K's to earn her league-leading 15th win of the season.

Ronni Grofman (5-9) was saddled with the loss for HCU. Perez finished 3-3 with five RBI for the Pokes while Reyna went 2-3 with two RBI to pace an 11-hit effort for the hosts, now 31-15 overall and 15-1 in the league. The win, coupled with Southeastern's split with Nicholls on Friday, gives the Cowgirls a two-game lead in the SLC standings.

HCU is now 17-22 on the season and 4-12 in the league.
