HOUSTON – The HCU beach volleyball team heads into this weekend's Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Championship tournament as the No. 3 seed with a matchup against No. 6 Southeastern to open play on Friday at 11::30 a.m. at Third Coast Volleyball Club.
The Huskies (10-21, 5-2 SLC) and Lady Lions (12-17, 3-4 SLC) faced each other once this season at the SLC Mid-Season Tournament in New Orleans, La. with HCU earning a 3-2 victory. The Huskies earned their three points from the Nos. 3, 4, and 5 pairs. At the threes,
Paige Palmer and
Audrey Pearce won 21-14, 21-19, while
Mary Alper and
Gabi Axelrod won at the fours, 24-22, 21-17, and No. 5 pair
Kylann Griffith and
Tatum Lockhardt earned a 21-12, 21-13 win.
Last time on the court, Apr. 10, HCU picked up a pair of wins over Stephen F. Austin, 4-1, and Tarleton State, 5-0. SLU, meanwhile, dropped three of four last weekend at the LSU Battle on the Bayou. The Lady Lions defeated New Orleans, 4-1, while falling to LSU, Jacksonville and ULM.
The winner of the Huskies' dual vs. Southeastern will move on to the face the winner of No. 2 Boise State and No. 7 McNeese at 4:00 p.m. The losers of those two matchups will play on Saturday, Apr. 20, morning at 9:00 a.m. in an elimination match.
