CARBONDALE, Illinois – The Huskies closed out the three-game series against Southern Illinois suffering a 13-0 shutout in seven innings.
After scoring the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning, the Salukis added six runs in both the bottom of the third inning and the bottom of the sixth inning to run-rule the Huskies.
Trevor Roper led HCU (7-9) tallying his second multi-hit game of the series going 2-for-3 with two doubles. Four Huskies recorded a single hit in the series finale;
William Jewell, Dylan and
Tyler LaRue, and
Ty Hodge, all went 1-for-3 on the day. Jet Feltman (2-1) was tagged with the loss pitching two innings to start the game allowing four earned runs on three hits with a trio of walks and strikeouts.
Christian Diaz pitched 2.2 innings of relief giving up a lone hit with two strikeouts.
James Kirkpatrick,
Nolan Wilson, and
Zach Ryan pitched 1.1 total innings of relief allowing nine earned runs with six total strikeouts.
Southern Illinois (10-5) were led by Nolan Bandy going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a double while Mathieu Vallee went 2-for-4 with five RBIs, two runs and a home run. Steven Loden went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs. Al Holguin (1-1) earned the win pitching 5.1 shutout innings to start the game giving up six hits with three strikeouts.
The Huskies will return to Houston to take on cross-town rival, Rice, in a three-game series next weekend.
