TAMPA, Fla. – The HCU beach volleyball team continued its early season gauntlet on Friday, falling to fourth-ranked Florida State and Florida Gulf Coast at the UT Beach Volleyball Complex.
The Huskies (1-9) started the morning against the No. 4 Seminoles (9-0), falling 5-0. The Huskies' No. 1 pair of
Kristen Kleymeyer and
Kristin Gilmour fell in two sets (21-19, 21-12) while
Paige Palmer and
Kylann Griffith fell by a 21-13, 21-16 final at the threes.
Dual two of the day came against Florida Gulf Coast (8-4) in the afternoon in a 5-0 HCU loss. Freshmen
Rachel Heilbrun and
Tatum Lockhardt took the Eagles' No. 4 pair to three sets but fell, 21-14, 19-21, 15-9. At the fives,
Killian Armstrong and
Gabi Axelrod came out on the wrong end of a pair of tightly-contested sets, 21-19, 22-20. At the ones, Kleymeyer and Gilmour also had a close matchup but fell in two sets, 21-19, 21-18.
HCU faces Coastal Carolina at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Mar. 9, to begin day two at the Tampa Invite 2 and then close out the day with a 3:00 p.m. matchup against the 20
th-ranked hosts.
