BEAUMONT, Texas – The HCU women's basketball team took a 69-47 loss in the Huskies' season finale on the road at Neches Federal Credit Union Arena to Southland Conference champion Lamar on Thursday evening.
Tove Caesar put the Huskies (6-23, 1-17 SLC) on the board first with a three-point inside the first minute but the Cardinals (23-5, 17-1 SLC) scored the next 15 points of the game and kept HCU off the board for more than six minutes to lead, 15-3. HCU pulled back within seven, 16-9, before trailing 17-9 at the end of the first quarter.
Early in the second quarter, Lamar went on runs of seven and six points as the Cardinals increased their lead before going into the intermission with a 42-21 lead. In the second half, the HCU deficit grew as large as 26 but the Huskies cut that under 20 multiple times in the fourth quarter.
N'Denasija Collins scored a team-high 15 points, connecting on 9-of-10 from the foul line, while also pulling down a team-best seven rebounds. Collins also finished with three steals and three assists. Freshman
Lyric Barr ended the night shooting a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor and finished with a career-high 11 points and tied her career-high with five rebounds.
Akasha Davis led Lamar with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Cardinals shot 40.6 percent (26-of-64) from the floor while HCU finished at 37 percent (17-of-46).
