BSB: HCU Claims Series Finale Against EMU

Huskies capture series against the Eagles, 3-1, with win in series finale, 8-4.

HOUSTON, Texas – The Huskies claimed the series finale against Eastern Michigan with a commanding, 8-4, win. HCU won the series, 3-1, and improve to 7-6 on the season.

After allowing a home run in the top of the second inning to EMU, the Huskies (7-6) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when Samuel Benjamin and William Jewell scored on a two RBI double to right center field off the bat of Ty Hodge to take a 2-1 lead. Another homer by the Eagles in the bottom of the fifth inning reclaimed the lead for Eastern Michigan at 3-2. HCU answered back with a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning off the bat of Tyler LaRue scoring Benjamin, Graham Laxton, and Luke Bard to regather the lead at 6-3. A triple by Cory Taylor scoring Giano Zuccaro in the top of the sixth inning narrowed the margin to two runs at 6-4. A sacrifice fly by Lane Sparks scoring Hodge in the bottom of the sixth inning reclaimed the Huskies three-run lead. HCU tallied the last run of the game in the bottom of the seventh when Benjamin hit a solo shot to center field.

The Huskies were led by Benjamin going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, three runs and a walk. Hodge went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, a run and a walk while Tyler LaRue went 1-for-4 with a grand slam. Jett Feltman (2-0) earned the win pitching five innings to start the game allowing three earned runs on four hits with a pair of walks and strikeouts. Christian Diaz notched his first save as a Husky pitching .2 shutout innings of relief.

Eastern Michigan was led by Cory Taylor going 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple and two RBIs. Cooper Vance went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs while Darren Kraft went 1-for-1 with a double, a run and two walks. Nick Chittum (1-2) was tagged with the loss pitching six innings to start the game allowing seven runs, six earned runs, on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Huskies hit the road for a three-game series against Southern Illinois on March 7-9 in Carbondale, Illinois at Itchy Jones Stadium.
