YOUNGSVILLE, La. – Freshman pair
Kristin Gilmour and
Rachel Heilbrun earned a pair of wins as the Huskies' No. 2 pair but the HCU beach team dropped a pair of duals to 20
th-ranked Tampa and Stephen F. Austin at the Sugar Beach Bash on Saturday.
In the first dual of the day, the Huskies (2-14) faced No. 20 Tampa and fell by a 4-1 final team score. Gilmour and Heilbrun, who also picked up a win on Friday, won their set at the twos, 21-13, 23-21 to earn the HCU point.
Killian Armstrong and
Lauren Vickery took their match to three sets (21-17, 19-21, 15-11) as the Huskies' No. 5 pair.
Later in the day, the Huskies came up short in a 3-2 decision to SFA (7-9). HCU's first point came from
Paige Palmer and
Audrey Pearce, playing as the team's No. 4 pair, with a three-set victory (24-22, 17-21, 15-11). At the twos, Gilmour and Heilbrun also went to three sets (18-21, 21-14, 15-12) to earn their third win of the tournament.
HCU travels to Austin this Wednesday, Mar. 20, for a mid-week meeting with Washington and Texas at the Barry M. Whitaker Sports Complex.
