SB: Huskies close homestand with loss to UTA

HCU off for a week, return to action at No. 19 Baylor next Tuesday

HOUSTON --- Houston Christian University concluded its six-game homestand with an 8-1 loss to UT-Arlington on Tuesday afternoon at Husky Field. The visiting Mavericks jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning and banged out 13 hits on the afternoon, whilst the HCU offense never got going in suffering a fourth straight defeat.

An RBI single by Kaitlin Sailer and an RBI groundout by Morgan Westbrook put the Mavs up 2-0. UTA would double its lead in the third on a two-run homer to right field by Jade Moreno. Arlington then extended its margin in the fourth, highlighted by RBI singles from Alaina Hampton and Westbrook.

Haylie Savage would finally get the Huskies on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth with a prodigious homer to right field, her team-high fourth of the season. The Mavericks got the run right back in the fifth on an RBI single by Marley Neises that closed out the game's scoring.

The Huskies managed just four hits off three UTA pitchers. Savage was 1-2 with the homer, walk and RBI, while AB Garcia, Jasie Roberts and Tabitha Burnett collected the other HCU hits on the afternoon.

Kynleigh Evans was saddled with the loss, dropping to 1-2 on the season. Lyndie Swanson came on in the first inning and went 3.2 innings while giving up nine hits and five runs, only two of which were earned. Addy Prasifka closed things out with 3.1 innings of three-hit, one-run relief for the Huskies.

Jade Moreno was 1-3 with the two-run homer and also came on in relief in the circle, tossing three innings with a walk and a strikeout to improve to 3-2 on the season. Sailor, Hampton, Neises and Cameron Cooper each had two hits and Westbrook had two RBI for the Mavericks, now 9-15 overall on the year.

HCU falls to 13-10 on the season. The Huskies will be off for the next week, not returning to the diamond until next Tuesday when they venture to Waco to take on 19th-ranked Baylor University.
