HOUSTON – HCU women's basketball hosts Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday afternoon in Sharp Gym at 1:00 p.m. for the team's final home game of the 2023-24 season.
The Huskies (6-21, 1-15 SLC) have two seniors on the roster in
N'Denasija Collins and
Kennedy Wilson. A special Senior Day recognition ceremony is set to take place immediately following the end of the game on Saturday.
It's been a month and a half since the Huskies and Lions (11-15, 6-10) met in Commerce, Texas on Jan. 13. HCU trailed by nine at the half but pulled within four in the fourth quarter before the Lions closed out the game with a 10-2 run.
Erin Maguire scored a then career-high 15 points in the loss for the Huskies with Collins adding 12.
Yasmin Butler set a career-best with five blocked shots in the loss.
Texas A&M-Commerce boasted four players scoring in double-figures in that game, led by junior Ahmya Boyce with 14. Senior Mia Deck leads the Lions with 14.6 points per game while her 16.6 ppg in SLC play leads the league. Three other players, Boyce, Mary Delgado and Jordyn Newsome, are all averaging more than 11 ppg. The Lions are in the midst of a four-game losing streak, most recently falling at home, 74-58, to regular season champion Lamar.
Collins, nearing the end of her fifth and final season with the Huskies, enters Saturday's game ranking sixth in program history in career scoring (1,391 points), seventh in rebounds (853), 13
th in assists (199) and seventh in career free throw percentage (76.5 percent). Wilson, also in her fifth season, closes her career ranking third all-time in free throw percentage (79.3 percent), eighth in assists (281) and 11
th in scoring (1,103).
The Huskies are scheduled to close out the season on Wednesday, Mar. 6, in Beaumont, Texas against the Lamar Cardinals at 5:00 p.m.
