HOUSTON – Fresh off Thursday's 56-51 win over McNeese, the HCU women's basketball team turns its attention to a Southland Conference rematch with UIW in Sharp Gym at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
HCU (6-16, 1-10 SLC) picked up its first SLC win last night in Sharp Gym, earning victory in a tightly-contested matchup in which neither team led by more than six points. The Huskies took a 48-42 lead in the fourth quarter but the Cowgirls pulled back to within one, 52-51, with just over a minute to play before HCU clamped down defensively with a pair of big stops while adding points on the offensive end to close the game out.

N'Denasija Collins and
Kennedy Wilson combined for 37 points in the win while
Jo Oly pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds and
Yasmin Butler totaled five blocked shots. As a team, the Huskies continue to pace the league in blocked shots per game in conference play, averaging 4.55 blocks per game.
UIW (12-9, 5-5 SLC) dropped a home matchup to Lamar on Thursday night, 72-68, with sophomore guard Aliyah Collins pouring in a career-high 28 points off the bench. Senior Nina de Leon Negron added 15 in the loss. In league play, Collins is averaging 16.1 points per game with de Leon Negron adding 12 ppg.
The Huskies and Cardinals met in San Antonio on Jan. 27 with UIW earning a 77-49 win. The Huskies had the game tied early in the second quarter before trailing by five, 28-23, at halftime. UIW used a balanced offensive attack in the win with five different players scoring between nine and 11 points. HCU got a 15-point effort from Collins while Wilson added 11 and
Erin Maguire scored eight in just 11 minutes off the bench.
HCU heads back out on the road next weekend for a Saturday, Feb. 17, rematch with Southeastern in Hammond, La. at 1:00 p.m.
