FRISCO, Texas – HCU senior outfielder
Samuel Benjamin was named a first team preseason all-Southland Conference selection, in voting by the league's head coaches, in an announcement by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
During the 2023 season, Benjamin led HCU with 48 RBI while batting .354 on the season. He tied for the team lead with 11 home runs and ranked second on the team with 36 runs scored, 14 doubles and 111 total bases. Among Southland Conference players, he ranked fourth in average (.354), fourth in slugging percentage (.634), fourth in OPS (1.060), tied for fifth in home runs (11) and seventh in RBI (48). Benjamin's 48 RBI are the most by an HCU player since 2012 when Jake Gonzalez drove in 63 runs. He put together hitting streaks of six, seven and eight games last year and recorded 20 multi-hit games.
Benjamin and the Huskies open the 2024 campaign on Friday, Feb. 16, at Husky Field in the first game of a four-game series against the LeMoyne Dolphins at 2:00 p.m.
